 Web Site Evaluation Form

Name                                                                                           Period

Does your web site have:
What that means:

Accuracy
Does this web page have factual information that is verifiable? Does it coincide with other web pages on the same subject?

Currency
Is the date the material was created, posted, or last updated on the web page visible? If not, is there a copyright date, which might be located in the footer? Is the material covered such that if the date is older than 2-3 years it may be out of date and no good to your research? Remember that this info must be used when you cite the source!

Authority
Who says this information is right? Check the URL to see if the person/organization has any real authority in this area. Remember:.org = a nonprofit organization; .edu = an educational institution; .gov = a governmental entity; and .com = a commercial or for profit business. And just because it says “.gov” doesn’t mean that some smart aleck isn’t trying to fool you—so go back to the ACCURACY box if something looks fishy. If it is just some guy hanging around in his basement cooking up wrong information just to fool you and anyone else he can, choose a different site!

Objectivity
Is this site giving you information without showing bias or trying to shove propaganda down your throat? To check, try other web sources listed in your search. Does the information pretty well match up? If so, you are on the right track. If not, try again!

Coverage
Does the information cover all aspects of your topic generally? Does it cover only part of your topic in great depth? Maybe you need more than one site to get all the information. Just make sure the info meets the ACCURACY criteria.

Design
How easy is it to navigate the web page? Do you have be an IT wizard to get from Point A to Point B? Does it have clear directions? Is it fairly easy to navigate? If you are spending more time trying to use the site than you are getting information, there must be a better site. Try another one!
