Grass Roots Landscape
Drew Ward first entered the Professional Landscape and Nursery Training (P.L.A.N.T.) Program in December 2004. After being downsized due to a merger of two large financial companies Drew, 41 years old and a project manager, decided he wanted to start his own business.
Preferring to be outdoors, Drew entered the PLANT Program to pursue his dreams. By the end of that first month the great Christmas ice storm had taken its toil on the county’s trees. Drew purchased a trailer to haul away remnants of the storm and thus started Grass Roots Landscape.
Within a year, before he had even finished taking all of the classes, Drew’s business grew by leaps and bounds. He soon hired two full time students, also graduates of the PLANT Program and three part time employees.
Drew now specializes in landscape construction of brick and paver walks and walls.
“The PLANT Program really helped me and for general background it was great. I learned a little of everything and am now not afraid to use any type of equipment. I would be struggling if I had not taken the PLANT Program.”
